VACUUM PAINTS
PINTURAS AL VACÍO/VACUUM PACKED PAINTINGS (2009)
In the “Vacuum Paintings” series, I cut directly from the support (canvas or wood). Plastic is added as a constituent material to stiffen the canvas without a frame. The paintings, which remain figurative, are devoid of their background, so the figure-ground relationship is extended towards the exhibition space. All the pieces can be combined in endless ways in the showroom. The wall becomes a large canvas and the paintings work as if they were particles of paint to be composed. The work in a certain sense is an allegory for the act of painting.
